Is shifting into neutral bad for your car?

I've been told it is, but I can't verify.... I used to have an RX-8, manual transmission...the only times I would throw it into neutral is when I was pulling in/out of a parking lot, and the RPM's were too low to stay in first/Reverse without sputtering and stalling....thats the only time I would ride the clutch a bit.
