Why macpherson struts used only at front axles and not at rear axles?

shocks are for the rear.struts have a bearing on the top that allows you to turn your wheels(the strut also turns when you turn your wheels)front wheel drive cars have 2 struts in front and 2 shocks in rear.all other cars and trucks have 4 shocks all around
