Why don't more Americans drive wagon-style vehicles like Europeans? Are they ugly?

Americans bought their SUV's (surely unnecessary vehicles) as a replacement to the station wagon. They refuse to accept the fact that the station wagon has returned and are not going to acknowledge that they're choice is going to be replaced by the vehicle they rejected.
